The Mental Health Clinician role works within our Stepped Care for Older Adults (SCOA) program, to deliver counselling to people aged 65 and over (or 50+ for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples), with mild to moderate mental health concerns. The program operates throughout Melbourne's north western region. SCOA offers support to a diverse group of older adults, with variation across cultural background (including CALD communities), mental health presentations, gender identity, relationship status, support networks, values and physical health needs. Mental Health Clinicians are responsible for delivering client centered, recovery-focused, trauma informed and holistic interventions. The flexible nature of this role allows clinicians to draw on their clinical expertise to assess, conceptualise and deliver treatment. Episodes of care consist of short term, one-on-one sessions at home, at a Holstep Health office or via telehealth.

YOUR NEW ROLE:

Mental Health Clinicians are responsible for delivering client centered, recovery-focused, trauma informed and holistic interventions. The flexible nature of this role allows clinicians to draw on their expertise across a range of therapeutic approaches, such as CBT, ACT, DBT, psychoeducation, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-based approaches, Exposure Therapies, Attachment-based therapies, trauma-specific therapies, and general counselling skills. Treatment episodes of care, consist of short term, one-on-one sessions at home, at a Holstep Health office or via telehealth.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Therapeutic Services Role:
- Undertake comprehensive initial psychosocial and dynamic assessments, and deliver targeted time limited evidence-based psychological interventions
- To build a therapeutic alliance with clients and work in a client centered, recovery-focused, trauma informed, holistic manner
- Maximising participation in collaborative recovery and wellness planning by completing Goal Directed Care Plans with clients
- Communicating and advocating for the consumer and their family/carer with the team and external service providers as required
- Uphold standards of care and safety and work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
- Participate in the review of operating policies and procedures as required
- Active monitoring and tracking progress of service provision
- To conduct clinical practice in a professional and ethical manner, participate in regular team meetings, care coordination meetings, line supervision and clinical supervision
- To work respectfully and productively with other Holstep Health staff, community members, stakeholders and other service representatives
Further Activities:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding guidelines, service standards and contractual obligations
- Develop and work towards individual work plans in conjunction with team leader
- Contribute to the achievement of internal targets and operate to a high standard, in a timely manner which ensures effective access for clients
- Assist in the provision of ongoing reports as well as supplying outcome and contact data
- Demonstrate behaviours and drive a culture that supports a recovery approach to care
- Accurate and timely documentation, data entry, and reporting
- Provide suggestions to team leader in regards to the programs operational function and outcomes
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Approved Degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers or
- Degree in Clinical Psychology and eligibility for membership with the A.P.S. College of Clinical Psychologists and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or
- Approved Degree from a recognised school of Occupational Therapy, eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Occupational Therapy (Vic.) and registration with AHPRA or
- Approved Degree in Psychiatric Nursing or equivalent; or, Bachelor Degree in Nursing and a postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing, and registration with AHPRA
- Minimum 3 years counselling experience (or mental health clinician/practitioner), working with mental health symptoms/diagnoses, including assessment, risk assessment, case formulation and delivery of evidence based treatment interventions.
- Demonstrated capacity of working in a multidisciplinary team with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
- A commitment to providing high level of care within a client-centered, trauma-informed, recovery model
- Excellent knowledge of frameworks and therapies relevant to their discipline, e.g. CBT, ACT, DBT, Psychoeducation, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Therapy, etc.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation, policies and strategic directions of Public Mental Health and Aged Care Services
Desirable:
- Knowledge of the Aged Care service system including My Age Care
- An understanding of the Stepped Care for mental health model
- A sound understanding of the social determinants of health, particularly for older adults
- Knowledge of the intersectionality, diversity and cultural responsiveness
