Mental Health Clinician

QCS is changing how we deliver Mental Health services and there has never been a better time to come to work with us. We are seeking early career and experienced Psychologists, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists who want to be part of these crucial centre-based teams.

QCS has multiple opportunities in North Queensland to join one of our teams as a Mental Health Clinician.

Townsville Correctional Complex: This diverse Centre is located approximately 15 kilometres from Townsville City. It supports men's and women's high and low custody for individuals at various stages of their sentence, from all across Queensland. In addition, prisoners from the low custody sites deliver community service projects daily.

Lotus Glen Correctional Centre: This Centre, 85 km's from Cairns, accommodates high and low security prisoners and provides remand and reception. As it is people centred, it aims to build cultural safety in the programs and services the QCS Mental Health Services team provide to support the prisoner population to improve outcomes.

No two days will ever be the same; you will manage a challenging case load, be exposed to on the job learning like no other role, all while providing quality clinical services that include assessments and tailored interventions that support mental health and wellbeing. Your excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to collaborate and work effectively and sensitively with a diverse range of colleagues and individuals in custody.

As a member of this team, you will also:

• Conduct independent risk assessments of harm to self or others, including acute or chronic risk
• Provide psychoeducation related to mental health conditions, symptoms and treatment options to individuals
• Deliver individual or group-based skill acquisition focused interventions aimed at developing coping skills and building resilience
• Maintain a high level of knowledge and contemporary understanding of psychopathology, diagnostic classification systems and clinical and psychometric assessment tools

QCS' clinical frameworks provide sound guidance and logic for appropriate decisions and activities, plus you will have supportive leadership and supervision to help you continue to broaden your professional experience and knowledge.
