School Psychologist

Ohana College is dedicated to engaging young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling or other educational programs. We are looking for compassionate and highly skilled School Psychologists to work with our students who have highly complex needs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Mental health intake and assessment. 

Counselling, intervention and case management.

Psychological assessments and written reports.

Develop individual support plans, including assessment of risk and safety planning.

Crisis management.

Support our young people with mental health issues, learning difficulties and disabilities to engage in their education.

Support staff within Ohana College with advice and resources. 

Develop and manage an assessment and referral process for students to access support from other professional services.

Support program facilitation.

Liaise with students parents/carers, support staff and any other external services to provide a holistic service.

Collaborate with management when dealing with situations involving child protection and welfare.

 

Key skills and experience (Selection Criteria)

Tertiary degree in Psychology (or equivalent) from a recognised tertiary institution.

Excellent working knowledge of the NCCD and EAP process relevant in an Independent school setting.

Previous experience in Case Management and working with young people at risk  in a school setting.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Clear working understanding of child protection issues.

Sound knowledge of the principals of mandatory reporting obligations, data collection and program evaluation, with demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.

High-level written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively  communicate with young people. Ability to act calmly and sensitively with people who are distressed and can have demanding and unpredictable behaviours.

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the personal barriers impacting on school participation and behaviour.

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the barriers disadvantaged and marginalised young people face when at risk of disengaging from school and education.

Demonstrated understanding of the social, cultural, economic, and educational needs and experience working with culturally diverse families.

Demonstrated ability to adhere to professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Ability to self manage, work effectively and efficiently with limited supervision.

 

Qualifications (Mandatory)

Relevant Bachelor/Masters Degree.

Membership of a Professional Body 

Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency Registration (AHPRA)

Current QLD Drivers Licence

This is a Full Time role. Monday to Friday 8AM - 4PM.  5 Weeks Annual leave.
