Early Career Psychologist – PCIT and Early Intervention and Assessment

Clinician – Child & Adolescent Psychology

Graduate and Early Career Position
Geelong and Colac | Permanent part-time | PCIT-focused role

About Belmont Allied Health

Belmont Allied Health is a Geelong-based psychology practice providing assessment and intervention for toddlers, children and their families. Services are delivered in Geelong and through our rural clinic in Colac.

The opportunity

We are seeking a Graduate Psychologist, Early Career Psychologist or Psychology Registrar to join the practice approximately three days per week, initially comprising two days in Geelong and one day in Colac.

You will work under the guidance of an experienced psychologist with strong networks across early childhood medical and allied health services. You will also join a positive, motivated environment, committed to working collaboratively to achieve excellent outcomes for vulnerable children and their families.

The role is based in a dedicated child psychology space equipped with a one-way mirror and audio system for PCIT and other clinical work.

Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) will be a substantial component of the role. PCIT is a gold-standard, evidence-based early childhood intervention that remains relatively uncommon in Australia. You will complete certification under my guidance, with an anticipated two-year period of supervised practice implementing the program.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop extensive skills in PCIT while gaining broader experience across assessment, early intervention and psychological practice. I would be pleased to support you to continue with the practice or pursue broader career opportunities after completing this period, drawing on my extensive professional networks and knowledge of the early childhood sector.

Key responsibilities

Your work will include:

  • Implementing PCIT as a core component of your caseload, with supervision and fidelity monitoring.
  • Completing developmental and early-years cognitive assessments.
  • Providing broader early childhood interventions for children with developmental, medical and psychosocial needs.
  • Working with a small number of adolescents and young adults presenting with common anxiety and mood concerns, including where these occur alongside lifelong disability.
  • Managing your own caseload and working autonomously while seeking supervision appropriately.
  • Working one day per week in Colac within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Liaising with families, schools, pediatricians and allied health professionals.
  • Maintaining clinical records and participating in case review and professional development.
  • Contributing positively to a collaborative team culture focused on high-quality care and meaningful outcomes.

Supervision and development

The position includes:

  • Funded PCIT training and certification delivered onsite.
  • Regular supervision and mentoring.
  • Experience in developmental and cognitive assessment, parent-focused treatment and early intervention.
  • Exposure to rural multidisciplinary practice.
  • Potential future training in PCIT-Toddler and PCIT-CU.

Selection criteria

Applicants should have:

  • Current AHPRA registration, or eligibility to work as a registrar under an approved supervision arrangement.
  • Eligibility for a Medicare provider number, where applicable.
  • A strong interest in children, families, early intervention and PCIT.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage a caseload.
  • A willingness to contribute to a positive, motivated team.
  • Commitment to regular supervision and professional development.
  • Availability to work in Colac one day per week.
  • A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain them.

Experience in developmental assessment, developmental disorders, parent coaching or disruptive behavior is desirable but not essential.

Employment conditions

This is a permanent part-time employed position, initially approximately three days per week. Remuneration will be in accordance with the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020 (MA000027), based on classification, qualifications and experience.

The position also includes:

  • Administrative support with bookings, billing and documentation.
  • Annual leave and personal leave in accordance with applicable employment law.
  • Superannuation in line with legislative requirements.
  • Potential to increase working days as the caseload develops.

Location

  • Geelong: Dedicated child psychology clinic space with one-way mirror and audio system.
  • Colac: One day per week in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Hours: Approximately three days per week initially, with fixed or flexible days by agreement.
