Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) is seeking an experienced mental health professional to provide statewide clinical governance, practice leadership, and specialist professional support across correctional centres throughout Queensland. This senior role is central to strengthening suicide prevention practice, enhancing service quality, and supporting frontline clinicians working with complex and high risk populations.

QCS delivers safe, modern and responsive correctional services that rehabilitate prisoners and offenders and contribute to a safer Queensland. Our multidisciplinary mental health and disability workforce plays a critical role in supporting vulnerable individuals and improving rehabilitative outcomes.

 As the Allied Health Practice Lead, you will provide expert guidance, supervision and practice leadership to psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists delivering mental health and disability services across Queensland’s correctional centres. You will lead suicide prevention initiatives, oversee complex risk management strategies, and drive statewide consistency in clinical standards, practice quality and service delivery.

The primary responsibilities of the Allied Health Practice Lead include:

• Training & professional development — Develop sustainable training, practice support and strategies for suicide prevention, disability, and discipline specific practice needs.
• Suicide prevention leadership — Maintain expert knowledge of best practice principles and lead practice support for suicidal and at risk prisoners.
• Emerging risk identification — Monitor and respond to emerging risks effecting service effectiveness.
• Clinical consultancy —provide expert advice on complex cases to mental health staff, managers, operational leaders and other business units
• Supervision & mentorship — Deliver high level clinical practice supervision to mental health team leaders.
• Quality monitoring — Coordinate statewide quality monitoring to ensure consistent suicide risk assessment and mental health service delivery.
• Contemporary practice leadership — Demonstrate advanced understanding of rehabilitation, disability and allied health practice trends.
• Stakeholder partnerships — Build strong partnerships with Queensland Health and other internal/external stakeholders.
• Cross command collaboration — Work effectively with other Commands to achieve strategic, evidence based outcomes.

About you: 

We are looking for an experienced allied health clinician who has advanced capability in clinical supervision, complex case management, and service improvement. The successful candidate will thrive in dynamic environments and bring strong professional judgement, cultural capability, and high level communication skills.

Mandatory requirements:

Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and, applicable registration or membership with appropriate registration authority. Certified copies of the required information must be provided prior to commencement. 

For Psychologists, the successful applicant will hold:

• Mandatory possession of a tertiary degree qualification in Psychology from a recognised tertiary institution and full general registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA). 
• The possession of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited postgraduate qualification in clinical or forensic psychology and endorsement would be highly regarded. 
• Approval by the Psychology Board as a supervisor or eligibility to undertake this process will be highly regarded.
