NT Health delivers integrated mental health and allied health services across the Northern Territory, supporting communities through acute, community and specialist service models.

 

The Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Service, located in Alice Springs in Central Australia is seeking a Senior Clinical Psychologist to provide high-level psychological assessment, formulation and intervention within a complex and culturally diverse service environment.

 

This is a senior clinical role with responsibility for delivering advanced cognitive and disability-related assessments, supporting multidisciplinary decision-making, and contributing to service development across the region.

 

About the role

As a Senior Clinical Psychologist, you will provide evidence-informed assessment and intervention for individuals presenting with complex mental health, neurological and neuropsychological conditions. A key component of the role includes cognitive assessment to identify suspected brain injury, cognitive impairment and disability within the MHAOD cohort.

 

You will work autonomously within your scope of practice while contributing to a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The role includes clinical supervision, mentorship and support of staff and students, as well as participation in continuous quality improvement and service development initiatives.

 

The position requires the ability to manage a high-volume and complex caseload within a dynamic service environment while maintaining high clinical standards and cultural responsiveness.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-level psychological and cognitive assessments for complex presentations
  • Providing evidence-informed clinical formulation and intervention
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary case planning and treatment decision-making
  • Providing clinical supervision and mentorship to psychologists, students and staff
  • Leading or contributing to quality improvement and service development initiatives
  • Supporting culturally safe practice in partnership with Aboriginal communities

To be successful, you will require:

  • Registration for practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Eligibility for membership with the Australian Psychological Society
  • Extensive postgraduate experience in cognitive and disability-related assessment
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex mental health presentations
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal clients, families and diverse communities
  • Strong leadership capability and experience providing clinical supervision
  • Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychology or neuropsychology
