Townsville Hospital and Health Service is launching a new Crisis Support Space
(CSS) as part of a state-wide initiative to transform how we respond to mental
distress and suicidal ideation. We’re seeking a passionate and experienced
Senior Mental Health Clinician to lead this innovative service and provide
advanced clinical leadership in a non-clinical, peer-supported environment.
This is a unique opportunity to work
at the forefront of mental health reform—supporting individuals in crisis while
collaborating across emergency and community services.
About the Role
As a Senior Mental Health Clinician,
you will:
- Provide clinical oversight and risk management
within the CSS.
- Support and mentor Peer Workers and
non-clinical staff.
- Deliver basic mental health triage and ensure
appropriate referrals for clinical care.
- Collaborate closely with the Emergency
Department, Acute Care Team, and other services to ensure continuity of
care.
- Foster strong relationships with service
providers to enhance referral pathways and treatment access.
- Maintain a therapeutic environment that upholds
the dignity and well-being of consumers and carers.
- Lead quality improvement and research
initiatives to evaluate and evolve the service.

What You’ll Need
Four-year Psychology degree (Honours or
Graduate Diploma) and registration with AHPRA.
Highly Regarded
- Postgraduate qualifications in
Clinical Psychology (Masters or Doctorate), or significant progress toward
completion.
- Appointment as an Authorised
Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016, or a
demonstrated commitment to completing the requirements for appointment.
