Senior Mental Health Clinician
Location: Canberra | Full-Time | Flexible Work Options

The Australian Childhood Trauma Group (ACT Group) is seeking a Senior Mental Health Clinician to join our Canberra-based team. This role involves delivering evidence-informed, trauma-focused clinical services to children, young people, families and carers who are affected by adversity and complex trauma.

This position is suited to a clinician who is committed to ethical practice, understands systemic approaches to care, and is confident working across a range of environments including homes, schools and community settings.


About Us

ACT Group is a multidisciplinary organisation supporting children, young people and families who have experienced trauma. Our team includes registered psychologists, mental health social workers, educators and therapeutic specialists. We work closely with carers, educators and service systems to support safety, recovery and development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver therapeutic interventions that are trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate and system-aware

  • Develop behaviour support plans in line with NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework

  • Conduct functional behaviour assessments and risk assessments as required

  • Provide consultation and training to families, carers and professionals

  • Collaborate with other service providers to support coordinated care

  • Contribute to program development and clinical governance processes


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA, or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the AASW

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in clinical roles within health, education, disability, or community settings

  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma and its impact on development and behaviour

  • Competence in delivering assessments and interventions in a variety of settings

  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, including clinical reporting for NDIS and other purposes

  • Ability to travel within the Canberra region

  • Current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration (ACT) and a National Police Check


Desirable Skills

  • Training or experience in dyadic, relational or family-based therapies

  • Experience in group facilitation or staff training

  • Experience working with clients funded under the NDIS

  • Flexible and responsive practice style that supports client engagement across diverse settings
