Applications are invited from appropriately qualified and enthusiastic candidates for a confirmation path, part-time 0.5 – 0.8 FTE (negotiable) position at the Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level, in Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychological Medicine.
The University of Otago is New Zealand’s most research-intensive university and it is also the top-ranked university for research quality.
It is optional that the person appointed may also hold a clinical role in the Otago District Hospital Board (DHB) Mental Health Services, for up to half of their time and to be negotiated with the DHB. The interests and experience of the appointee will be crucial in linking the clinical and academic components of the post.
The successful appointee will be responsible for providing academic leadership for the Behavioural Science Unit, overseeing curriculum development of a health psychology Masters programme and conduct their own independent and productive research programme. An established pattern of completed research would be a distinct advantage.
Teaching responsibilities include contributing to, and participating in, undergraduate medical and postgraduate medical and non-medical courses. Emphasis on behavioural medicine, health psychology and communication skills, delivered largely in a multi-disciplinary, integrated manner.
Academic title will be determined by the University.
It is essential that the successful applicant be able to contribute to the Masters of Health Psychology programme. Thus, health psychology experience would be advantageous. It is essential that the successful candidate is eligible for registration as a psychologist in New Zealand. It is desirable that the successful candidate is eligible for registration within the clinical scope of practice.
