In this position you will provide trauma specific services for children, young people and their families/carers who have been exposed to violence, abuse or neglect. Within the role you will provide assessment, therapeutic intervention, case co-ordination, advocacy, professional consultation and education with the overarching purpose of working toward the recovery and ongoing safety and wellbeing of children and young people involved in the child protection system. The approach taken will be dependent upon the individual needs of the child and family, with a strong focus enhancing the capacity of parents and carers to develop their skills in meeting the safety, welfare and wellbeing needs of children and young people.
As a psychologist or social worker you will have a strong understanding of trauma informed care and understand the potential long term health impacts for people who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect. You will have strong skills in conducting psycho-social and risk assessments, intervention planning and applying a wide range of therapeutic models in practice with clients. You will be effective in working collaboratively with external services and internal health services to ensure the holistic needs of the child, young person and family are met. You will have a solid ability to provide culturally safe and competent services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people referred to the service and people from cultural and linguistically diverse communities. Highly developed skills in report writing is an additional skill you will bring to this role.
The Child Protection Counselling Service is based in Armidale Community Health. It provides services to children, young people and families in relation to violence, abuse and neglect to assist them to recover and support them to achieve safety, security and permanency in their living environment. This position works closely with HNE Health teams of Violence, Abuse and Neglect; Sexual Assault; Child, Young People and Families, and Joint Child Protection Response, as well as external organisations and interagency partners.
