We offer an exciting opportunity for a Senior Counsellor ($93,347 - $107,193) to join our world-leading institution at James Cook University (JCU).   A part time, continuing appointment this position is based at our state-of-the-art facilities at JCU Cairns.

 

What can you accomplish in the Role

Working as an active member of a multidisciplinary student services team, you will deliver expert psychological and mental health services to students including assessment, counselling and evidence based therapeutic interventions to individuals, couples and groups.  You will also provide clinical leadership and education, including clinical supervision as required, to Student Wellbeing Counsellors and high-level advice to senior university staff on mental health related issues, including the provision of appropriate psychological response to critical incidents.

 

What will you bring to the Role

With a background in Psychology, Occupational Therapy or as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and a history in working with complex and high-risk mental health presentations you will hold, or be eligible to hold, registration with AHPRA in your field of expertise.  Your proven counselling experience with a broad range of clients, including those from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, preferably in a tertiary setting, will see you make a real difference to the wellbeing of our students
