The Clinical Supervisor leads and supervises a Family Intensive Team (FIT) that delivers Multisystemic Therapy (MST), a proven evidence-based and professionally supervised program, with strong organisational support. The MST model is currently licensed to 31 American states, as well as Canada, UK, Europe and New Zealand, and has shown excellent cross-cultural results, including in Western Australia. MST has been developed and researched for serious adolescent conduct disorder. MST intervenes at all levels of the adolescent’s ecology and works with the family as the primary and enduring agents of change and support for the adolescent. Interventions are flexible and individually tailored for each family. MST interventions focus on the known determinants of adolescent anti-social behaviour in the environments where they live - their homes, school, peer networks, neighbourhood and informal support systems. More information about the MST Model can be found on the MST Services website at www.mstservices.com.
The FIT is specifically for adolescents who commit serious and/or repeat offences, or who are at high risk of offending. FIT seeks to change the multiple systemic factors that cause this group of adolescents to offend. FIT Clinicians provide an intensive systemic home-based intervention service in a community setting. Interventions typically span individual, couple, family, peer and community systems, using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Behaviour Therapy and the Pragmatic Family Therapies. FIT Clinicians work with a specified caseload (maximum of 6) in a small team with support from a dedicated team Clinical Supervisor. In addition, FIT staff work alongside an Aboriginal Team Advisor to develop cultural skills in engaging successfully with Aboriginal families.
MST has developed a training, consultancy and support system for developing and maintaining high quality professional supervisory skills based on 30 years of validated best practice and using innovative strategies such as ongoing feedback from multiple perspectives (video/tape analysis, family feedback) to develop skilled staff. MST Services provide FIT Supervisors with targeted booster training each quarter, regular 1:1 consultative support which occurs in addition to weekly group consultation for clinician’s interventions. FIT offers staff individually tailored professional development within a strength focussed and supportive team setting.
