Magistrates’ Court of Victoria
• Fixed Term until 30th June 2012
• Melbourne CBD location
People with a mental illness and cognitive impairment are significantly over-represented as accused and as prisoners in the criminal justice system. In response to this and as part of the whole-of-government Mental Health Reform Strategy, the Victorian Government has announced funding for a pilot of a specialist Mental Health List (the List) at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
Sitting in a specific Court designed for the pilot project you will work closely with a specialised Magistrate. You will be required to undertake comprehensive psychological assessment of alleged offenders as they come to trial, providing expert advice to the Magistrate, Clinicians and Case Managers (both internal and external to the Department) to assist in the development of individual support plans for each person.
To be successful in this role you will be highly organised with a flexible attitude, as you will be working with a range of external stakeholders that include but are not limited to Victorian Legal Aid, Victoria Police and external Clinicians and Case Managers.
Closing Date: Wednesday 10th February 2010.
