About The Gut Centre

The Gut Centre was established more than 7 years ago and is Australia’s first and leading clinic to provide evidence-based psychological interventions for patients experiencing disorders of the gut-brain axis. We treat patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) & other gastrointestinal conditions. The Gut Centre also offers Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy to adults and children as young as 5yrs old.

As Australia’s leading clinic in brain-gut psychology, we have a much longer patient waiting list than we would like and therefore have an exciting opportunity for a Psychologist looking to take on an immediate case load to join our amazing and supportive team.

About the Role

You will be based at our Kew location with a requirement for you to work min 2 days per week in total, with potential to quickly grow to a 3rd or 4th day if suitable, with a preference for Mondays and Thursdays. Your hours are negotiable, (ie working around school times or half days will be considered as well as before/after hours and Saturdays). You will be providing psychological services to children, adolescents and adults. This position can be offered as an independent contract or salaried role.

In this position, you will be practicing evidence-based, gut-directed psychotherapies to manage gastrointestinal disorders. We have a strong referral base from leading doctors. Due to current demand, the successful applicants will be provided with an immediate caseload to suit their preferred hours, regular individual and group supervision, and the opportunity to work and collaborate with positive and like-minded professionals. 

To be successful you will:

  • Be an AHPRA Registered Psychologist with insurance and eligibility for a Medicare provider number
  • Experience working with children and adolescents (ideally from 5 years old) and a Working with Children’s Check
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially able to quickly build rapport 
  • Have a keen interest in mind-body connection and have existing or interest in developing brain-gut psychology skills
  • Be genuinely caring, positive and committed to high quality patient care
  • Ideally, have training in Hypnotherapy, however if not, you would be required to undertake hypnotherapy training, utilising other therapies such as CBT and mindfulness in the interim.
