School Counsellor

CatholicCare works on behalf of the community in the Archdiocese of Melbourne and Diocese of Sale with a mission to break down the barriers to social inclusion by strengthening families and communities. 

We are currently looking for a School Counsellor to provide a high quality counselling service to students in designated schools around Geelong, consistent with the ethos, practices and protocols of CatholicCare, and within the Australian Psychological Society’s and Psychologists Registration Board of Victoria’s professional guidelines. 

Reporting to the Manager of Schools Unit, the School Counsellor will:

  • Provide high level clinical and trauma informed interventions for the young people referred to the program and those who are our primary target group
  • Participate in fortnightly supervision with the Schools unit program
  • Support teaching staff to develop individual learning and behaviour plans which enhance educational outcomes for young people
  • Develop the capacity of staff in an educational setting to respond effectively to young people whose learning and development has been impacted by trauma
  • Provide support to families and carers to enhance wellbeing and educational outcomes

As the successful applicant you will possess:

  • AHPRA registration as a Psychologist or appropriate Social Worker tertiary qualifications
  • Practice knowledge relevant to working with traumatised and vulnerable children, young people and families
  • Experience in an educational setting would be an advantage
