The Australian National University (ANU) has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the Research School of Psychology, the ANU Medical School, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the Research School of Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.
The ANU Psychology Clinic, within the Research School of Psychology, specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems experienced by people of all ages. We aim to help people achieve greater well-being in relation to their work, community, learning, relationships, and quality of life. Our services are available to students and staff of the ANU and members of the broader Canberra community.
The Psychology Clinic is an energetic and dynamic clinical-research-training setting that is responsible for preparing postgraduate clinical psychology students for registration and practice as Clinical Psychologists. Staff and students enthusiastically embrace the scientist-practitioner model of clinical psychology training and focus on evidence-based practice and the integration of practice with scientific inquiry. We are a group of compassionate practitioners and enthusiastic thinkers who are driven to challenge what is expected, expand what we know, and learn from others.
We are seeking to appoint a child clinical psychologist who will focus on providing child clinical services and clinical supervision to provisional psychologists within the Clinical Psychology Program at the ANU. In the position, you will supervise provisional psychologists completing their first clinical placement, support teaching and training of postgraduate students, provide appropriate psychological services to clients and their families (assessment, diagnosis, individual/group interventions), participate in the generation and execution of clinically-relevant research, and contribute to the overall effective operation and strategic directions of the Psychology Clinic. The ability and desire to teach into the postgraduate curriculum in child clinical psychology is also preferred.
The successful candidate will have a Masters or Doctoral degree in clinical psychology and endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist with the PsyBA, Board-approval as a supervisor, and previous experience supervising provisional psychologists and working in a university setting. We also require strong competencies in the training and delivery of empirically-supported psychological interventions for children and their families. In addition, expertise conducting diagnostic interviews, intellectual/cognitive assessments, behavioural/mental health assessments, learning assessments, and family assessments is essential.
