Psychologists in Defence Force Recruiting contribute to Defence capability by ensuring that people who apply to join the Australian Defence Force (ADF) are psychologically suitable for Defence service. The Senior Psychologist - APS 6 position is located in the Headquarters Defence Force Recruiting psychology section (within the Directorate of Recruiting Health Services), which is comprised of a small team of psychologists, military personnel and administration staff.
The APS-6 Psychologist role would be responsible for:
- Monitoring the quality of psychological assessments undertaken by the Defence Force Recruiting regional service providers;
- Providing comprehensive individual risk assessments and expert advice to the Services (Army, Navy, RAAF) for priority candidates who do not meet the health standard for ADF entry;
- Assisting Joint Health Command in reviewing, updating and revising policy and procedures relating to ADF personnel selection assessment, matching scientific research against the ADF inherent requirements of service to ensure that they remain relevant; and
- Developing the next generation of psychology assessment protocols for candidates who apply to join the ADF.
